When Spring first shows up, the only flowers are the artificial flowers I place on the front of the house. It’s early April and the colors and starkness of winter is tiring, especially so for this winter which has been a difficult one.
The colors are bright and cheerful. The wreath signifies the never-ending circle of seasons here in the Midwest. They offer a reminder of the hope we have for new beginnings, shaking off the chill and feeling the windy but warmer weather.
Once May rolls around things are more active. Trees are blossoming, bees are becoming more frequent visitors. Flowers are peering up from the shelter of the earth and buds are forming. Trees are alive with the changes. Leaves unfolding, and our vegetable and flower gardens will soon be planted. The first of May feels like a turning point to me.
