A few years ago I began this ritual of writing down things that I am thankful for. I don’t have the little notes from the first year. I decided to keep track of the subsequent years. Last year I counted 50. This year 70. I’ve read that by keeping track of what makes you happy, you become happier. You also become more generous and more positive according to some researchers.
The things that make me happiest are generally related to my family, friends and nature. I can imagine that many of my readers would have similar responses. It’s fun to look back on the year and remember writing down certain things. I get to revisit the experiences I wrote about. This is also pleasant. It reminds me how lucky I am. It reminds me to complain less.
My little clothespin board is ready for the coming year.
