John Prine released his latest recording, Tree of Forgiveness on April 13. Heard an interview with him recently in which he talked about coming to terms with his now gravelly voice; changed as a result of having survived cancer and, I imagine the treatment of it. Can only guess at how such a life altering event and treatment may have affected him.
This song, Summer’s End is hauntingly beautiful and hints at the larger issue of all that we love, what we lose, and how fleeting it all is as death becomes more real. I possess neither the skill nor the eloquence Mr. Prine has. THis version featuring Brandi Carlile and Sturgill Simpson is particularly moving. This song is worth sharing and listening to on repeat.
